Hampshire Conference Bureau experiences: Tall Ship Sailing

Tall Ship Sailing on the Solent with the Jubilee Sailing Trust

The day began meeting the crew of the Lord Nelson at the jetty in Southampton who welcomed us all on-board for a bacon sandwich and a cup of tea. Over early morning refreshments we went through a comprehensive safety briefing with allocated muster areas and tried on life jackets. We motored out of Southampton docks and given there was little wind at this stage, it was announced that we could try our hand at climbing the rigging. Truly something remarkable and slightly daunting although the crew were extremely capable and patient. With the wind picking up we all descended back to deck for a sumptuous lunch. In the afternoon we set the sails against the gorgeous blue sky which involved everyone who wanted to be involved pulling or letting a line or two. A real sense of achievement and team work! A great way to utilise England’s fantastic sea-scape in a truly unique fashion.

Explore some of the best seas and landscapes on England’s doorstep. The Jubilee Sailing Trusts’ day sails are ideal if you would like to see what it is like on board or organise a unique corporate team building activity utilising the intrinsic nature of tall ship sailing which draws on team building, leadership, collaboration and the power of diverse teams. Try your hand at helming the ship, setting the sails and enjoying freshly cooked food straight from the galley.
